Identified as a ‘strategic employment site’ by Arun District Council, the 45.6 acres has been named as four key areas to help Enterprise Bognor Regis.

The long awaited announcement brings to an end a 12 year journey, since Sime Darby London Limited (SDLL) purchased the land in 2004, and shows promise of being a step forward for the scheme.

A spokesman said: “We would like to continue the dialogue that SDLL had with Arun District Council and key local stakeholders with a view to progressing the Enterprise Bognor Regis scheme through the Local Plan process.

“We would also like to see whether the site can be put to beneficial use in the short term.”

Lec Refrigeration, once the biggest business in Bognor Regis, laid out the grass airfield on fields behind its factory in 1946, so it could operate light aircraft to visit overseas agents and customers.
