Jaw-dropping day in store during Arun’s Armed Forces celebrations

DEATH-DEFYING stunts, cannon blasts and miniature tanks are all on the horizon this month as Littlehampton and Arundel unite to celebrate Armed Forces Day.

The Littlehampton Town Council has combined, once again, with Harbour Park to show its support for the men and women of the nation’s armed forces.

The military bonanza will begin on Saturday, June 30, at The Green and in Harbour Park, with plenty of action to keep families in the town entertained.

One of the highlights of the day will be the dynamic members from the Portsmouth Action Field Gun Run Club who, in 2001, resurrected the field gun runs after the Royal Navy stopped it in 1999.

The group which is made up of civilians and ex-field gunners, has travelled far and wide to perform competitive gun runs using the same drill, the same equipment and over the same course that their Royal Navy former gunners did for 100 years.

Their displays promise to provide spectators with similar amazement often seen in British military tournament competitions.

Expect an impressive collection of miniature tanks from the UK Tank Club on The Green, as well as live music and more than 20 stalls from a variety of uniformed groups including a fund-raising area from one of the event’s charities, Help for Heroes.

In the sky, there will be a jaw-dropping display of aerobatic stunts, from 1pm.

Two pilots will be flying single-engine planes and performing a series of death-defying stunts, over the sea, during the event.

Other attractions include a 1940s Navy Army and Air Force Institutes’ (NAAFI) tent where the essence of the Second World War will be recreated.

Arundel

Arundel will be hosting its own celebrations, to support Help for Heroes, in High Street, from classic cars, market stalls, barbecues and a visit from a local motorcycle group.
