UNITED HIT SIX AT PAGHAM

UNITED manager Ian Browne provided a solution to his announced need last week for "an experienced, greedy and proven striker" '” himself.

The veteran Clifton leading scorer, in his first start for United in Division 1, grabbed two goals in the second six-goal hiding they have handed out this season.

Afterwards he warned: "I'm not the answer. Any old chimp could have got the goals I scored."

On 36 minutes, Sonny Banks forced a defensive error and Browne made it 3-0. Then on the hour, David Texteira's Brazilian trickery drew another foul, this time in the box, and the boss belted in the penalty to make it four.

Browne wasn't just being greedy and proven. His fifth-minute corner tested the Pagham aerial defence, they failed and Steve Webb pounced for his second goal this season. Later, inside the last 10 minutes, his through pass beat a square defence for Texteira to notch his first goal for United.

Texteira had served up Banks' first goal in the 11th minute and his second, four minutes from time, was the goal of the game '” a greedyish but emphatic finish when put through by Shane Moses with two colleagues awaiting a tap-in.

Pagham had Lee Stevens sent off at 3-0 for bad language and skipper Jon Tucker at 4-0 on a second yellow card.

Browne saw the performance as a triumph for his new 4-3-3 formation, the correct attitude of the players and team spirit, ethic and togetherness, over the handicap of a huge injury list, which included starters Peter Raynsford and Steve Pickles, and the dropping out of six players late in the week.

He said: "We had people playing out of position and I wasn't sure Peter would last the match. But we got our just rewards early on. We've always created chances."
