Town's fine run continues

STEYNING Town Football Club will go into Friday's Cup final with Wealden on the back of 16 points from seven league games.

Two goals from Greg Hearne were enough to secure Steyning's fifth win in those seven games, against Crawley Down on Tuesday.

Hearne opened the scoring on 17 minutes from Chris Duffett's cross. Town went close to increasing their lead in the first half but Gareth Dutton's long-ranger went just wide.

Crawley Down, who were unbeaten for seven games, equalised on 64 minutes but they were level for just four minutes. Hearne headed home his 11th goal of the season from Sean Hourigan's cross.

Hearne then twice had efforts ruled out which would have seen him complete his first Steyning hat-trick. Firstly, Hourigan was adjudged offside then James Pargeter was deemed to have his foot too high, before Hearne netted.

Crawley had a player dismissed for violent conduct with five minutes left before they had a last-minute penalty appeal waved away following a Ryan Pratt challenge.

STEYNING: Angell; Davis, S.Duffett, Pickford, Pratt; Hourigan, Dutton, Schofield, C.Duffett; Hearne, Price. Subs: Pargeter (Price 50), Goodridge (Dutton 60), Trower, Edmonds, Waterhouse.
