Town take positives

ARUNDEL Football Club's class ultimately told as they booked their place in the John O'Hara Cup third round on Saturday '” but Steyning Town battled gamely at Mill Road.

For the opening 10 minutes it was hard to distinguish who was the Division 1 side as second division Steyning took the game to their higher ranked opponents. Town's Simon Price had the ball in the net in the first minute but his effort was ruled offside after Jim Smith's clearance rebounded into his path.

The strong wind was affecting Arundel's rhythm but their nerves were settled by a penalty award in the 12th minute. Simon Clayton was tripped just inside the box and Matt Huckett calmly dispatched the spot-kick to give Mulletts the lead.

Steyning refused to buckle and it needed Duncan Barnes' goalline clearance to prevent Daryl Hunter from equalising in the 20th minute.
