The finals which took place on the Welford Road pitch prior to the Tigers premiership game against Exeter Chiefs had attracted entries from over 70 different rugby clubs throughout England and following the qualification rounds had left just eight teams to battle it out for the title.

Teams who had qualified included clubs from hotbeds of rugby in Coventry, Southwold, Leamington Spa, Lichfield, Scunthorpe, Olney and Market Harborough and Heath knew they were going to be in for a tough outing on the pitch.

Having progressed to the Quarter Finals the opposition for Heath were a big side from Scunthorpe RFC. The Heath Under 10s were not to be intimidated by the team from the north east and showed real commitment with some ferocious tackling and relentless attacking rugby to beat Scunthorpe by a score of three tries to two in a real nailbiter.

Through to the semi-finals, Heath were drawn to play Olney RFC from the Midlands who were another large side for the Under 10 age group. Heath displayed some brilliant skills in taking the game to Olney and were repeatedly hammering away at the Olney tryline seeking the decisive score .

However the Olney defence remained resolute and it was the Midlanders who managed to get the winning score and a place in the Grand Final. Olney’s win over Heath was hard fought and it was unsurprising that the side from the East Midlands went onto to take the title.

The whole trip was a great experience for the Heath boys which will hone their skills for the forthcoming Sussex County finals where they will attempt to retain their County Championship crown .
