Chichester College rugby trio's delight at England call

From five lads who represented Chichester College's rugby academy at the England Colleges trials, three have made the national squad.

The England Colleges men’s squad is made up of players who have successfully taken part in the regional trials process. They embody the best that FE colleges rugby has to offer. They represent their college and their country in internationals games against the Portuguese under-18s, Irish Exiles and the Welsh Colleges.

The successful three – Richard Faulkes, squad captain (Bishop Luffa); Mike Uta (Chichester College) and Danny Kirkpatrik (Chichester High School for Boys) – have been invited to attend an England Colleges training weekend this weekend.

Phil Llewellyn, England Colleges manager, said, “The ability of all the players involved was very impressive and made the job of selecting the squad extremely difficult.”

Mark Bonar, lecturer in sport at Chichester College, said: “Congratulations also go to Chichester’s Rob Lawrence who acted as south-east squad’s forwards coach – they comprehensively won all their matches.

“It’s worth noting that two are from other schools and their talent may not have been realised to their full potential in their existing schools. I hope that this will encourage other players from their schools to join us in the future for their studies and rugby.”
