MULLETS IN SURPRISE GOALLESS DRAW

ARUNDEL have had a habit of high-scoring games in the past two seasons, so it came as a surprise when they shared a 0-0 draw for the first time in 89 games on Saturday.

The last time Mullets were involved in a scoreless game was at home to Littlehampton on April 21, 2003, when Mike Rowland was still the boss.

Prior to Wayne Flynn being appointed manager in September, previous boss Steve Johnson's 64-game reign did not include a single match without a goal.

Flynn said: "We were scoring loads earlier in the season, but also conceding loads of goals, but now we have tightened up a bit and are becoming harder to beat.

"It's better this way than losing 4-3 every week."

As for the rest of the season, Flynn said: "We still have quite a few teams near the bottom to play, so if we can beat them and get on a bit of a run, we will hopefully finish in the top six or seven."

Mullets Gary Norgate had the clearest opening of the first half, but shot tamely at the Redhill keeper when clean through.

Miles Scerri had the best chance to win the game for Arundel midway through the second half, but had his one-on-one effort saved for a corner. Flynn said it was a chance Scerri would score 99 times out of 100.

Arundel keeper Ben O'Connor made a excellent save in the second period.

Kevin Bush shone in defence for Mullets, who welcome Rob Grove back from suspension for Saturday's trip to East Grinstead.

Midfielder Dave Towers was on the bench for Arundel on Saturday, and is fit to resume playing again after injury.

ARUNDEL: O'Connor; Jones, Pidgeon, Bush, Corbett; Blake, Walker, Wimbleton, Norgate; Scerri, Boxall. Subs: Sutcliffe (Corbett 45), Cairns (Blake 70), Towers.
