Horsham expecting tough Merstham test - although game already ‘unlikely’ to go ahead

Chief executive John Lines has said the game is already ‘unlikely’ to take place ahead of a pitch inspection.

Horsham play Merstham after three consecutive wins in the league and there’s only one point separating the two sides in the table.

Horsham player/manager Gary Charman said: “It’s a big one, it’s between two very good footballing sides and we look forward to it.

“It will be a good spectacle and it will be entertaining and hopefully we can carry on in good form and make it four wins out of four.”

Merstham go into the game after having picked up six points in the New Year - winning two games and suffering one defeat.

Charman added: “It’s not often at this level you get two footballing sides, I’ve said in my programme notes that probably both sides wouldn’t expect to be in this position half through the season.

“But we are there, and we have got half a season and you know our aim is to climb as many positions in the table as we can in the next 22 games.”

Charman will be desperate for the game to go ahead after having six games postponed over the festive period which meant they were out of action for 25 days.

“It was a long time not playing but we have won three in a row and there is high morale around the club at the moment,” he added.
