Golds' errors gift Carl first Wick win

CARL STABLER'S first victory since his return to the Wick hotseat came with a comfortable success over his previous club Littlehampton on Bank Holiday Monday.

Golds, still looking for their first win under new boss Trevor Waller, more than matched their hosts for the opening half-hour but gifted Wick three of their four goals with defensive errors.

The game could have taken on a whole different complexion if Wick keeper Steve Phillips had not produced a stunning finger-tip save to turn Ryan Hudson's shot onto the post after 22 minutes.

Eight minutes later, though, Wick took the lead and never looked back. Phil Turner raced onto Ben Torode's through pass and his left-foot shot was deflected past Golds' keeper Steve Colbourne into the top corner by Kev Clayton's attempted sliding block.

Stan Elder then just failed to get enough contact on the lively Bruno Coasta's through ball for an equaliser before Littlehampton self-destructed with two errors just before half-time.
