Wimble treble sees Selsey rediscover winning ways

Rob Wimble hit a first-half hat-trick while a Graham Bush double and Mark Lee’s strike sealed an emphatic 6-0 win for the visitors.

The victory sets up Adam Hinshelwood’s side for this Saturday’s league encounter at home to a St Francis Rangers side who have not won since the opening day of the season.

It was a much-needed win for Hinshelwood’s side after three games without a victory, and the Selsey boss pointed to a quick tempo on Saturday that had been lacking in previous weeks.

He told the Observer: “We started at a good pace which was pleasing to see because I think that’s been missing the past few games.

“It’s nice when we have chances to punish teams and be ruthless. It happened to us at Burgess Hill and last time we had a big defeat it brought out the best of us and we went on a little run.

“Their keeper gifted us a couple of goals but at the same time I thought our two strikers deserved all the goals they got.

“They were a constant threat all game and hopefully it will be a big confidence boost for Robert, who led the line superbly – if you give him the opportunity he’ll finish it because he’s one of the best in the league.”

Hinshelwood also praised the team’s togetherness and work-rate after their sixth victory in 11 away games this season.

“It was pleasing to go away and be as threatening as we were – the first win away at Crowborough (in October) showed we can get decent results and we haven’t looked back from there,” he said.

He said: “It’s up to us to not let this game pass us by.”

Selsey visit Arundel in the league next Tuesday.
