We've got to make the Amex a difficult place to come - Hughton

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton says it will be vitally important for the Seagulls to make the Amex a tough place to visit in the season's run-in.

Albion have failed to win at home in their last four matches and have registered just one victory in their last seven games at the Amex.

The Seagulls have enjoyed strong home form since promotion into the Premier League in 2017 and still have Huddersfield, Cardiff, Southampton, Bournemouth and Newcastle to play at the Amex as they battle to stay in the top flight.

Championship side Derby visit Brighton in the last 16 of the FA Cup this afternoon and Hughton knows just how key home form will be for the remainder of the season.

He said: "It's vitally important and we know the games which are coming up.

"We know we have to play a lot of teams around us here at the Amex.

"In my time here, we've had a very good record here and we've made it a difficult place for opposition to come. We need to continue doing that."

With so many key matches to come at the Amex, Hughton hopes a FA Cup win over Derby this afternoon will ease any anxiety around the stadium.

He said: "Any anxiety in the crowd – and I think we have a very good and level-headed crowd – is normal.

"They want to see the team winning. If there is a little bit of frustration that we’re feeling it’s because we are going through a period where things don’t go for you.

"Certainly, the Burnley game we’ve played worse than that and won. Sometimes you go through them periods.

"So, any anxiety is normal and you have to accept it in the game. But a win lifts everybody.

"Certainly a win (against Derby), which would put the club in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, would be huge for us.

"It’s something very exciting for supporters to look forward to.”
