United back to winning ways

Hastings United rediscovered some form with a welcome 2-1 win away to Horsham on Tuesday night.

The U’s put a run of just two wins in 12 games behind them thanks to an 85th minute winner from Michael Phillips in this Ryman League Cup third round tie.

United, who gave a first start to youth team player Glenn Whitaker, opened the scoring through Kenny Pogue on the hour only for Paul Kennett to equalise nine minutes later for a Horsham side containing Anthony Storey.

It was a much-improved performance from Tony Dolby’s side, who created several other opportunities against fellow Premier Division opposition in a game which marked Sean Ray’s comeback from an ankle ligament injury.

United: Chalmers-Stevens, Jirbandey, Eldridge, Whitaker, Ray (T. Olorunda), Phillips, Cade, Adams, Pogue (West), Sawyer, Logan (White). Subs not used: Parris, Dann.

A full report will appear in Friday’s Hastings Observer.
