League start is perfect for Pagham - the opposite for Chichester

It was the third time in a row the Lions had beaten Chichester but it could have been a different story without keeper James Binfield.

The win made it two from two in the first four days of the season for Carl Stabler’s men, putting them second in the early-season table, while it’s two home defeats from two for Adie Girdler’s team.

The early period was scrappy and it wasn’t until just before the half-hour that a scoring chance arrived.

A penalty awarded to Chichester saw Joe Briggs step up but Binfield produced an immense save to push the ball on to the post and away for a corner.

Chichester keeper Tom Boyle also proved his worth with a double save at the end of the first half.

Two minutes after the break Pagham scored from the spot, Scott Murfin tucking away the penalty.

The lead was doubled a few minutes later with James Temple scoring from a header that Boyle could only tip just under the bar and into the net.

Chichester scored their goal just after the hour with a superb strike from Louis Edwards.

City and Pagham turn their attentions to the FA Cup on Saturday, when they host Fisher Athletic and Herne Bay respectively in the extra preliminary round.
