Hastings currently on; Sidley off

Hastings United’s game at home to Whitehawk tonight (Tuesday) is currently on, although a final decision won’t be made until much nearer kick-off.

Groundsman Simon Rudkins checked the pitch at The Pilot Field this morning, but won’t know any more about the surface until after the sun’s gone down. Temperatures are forecast to drop to freezing point by early evening.

“You can’t always trust the weather forecast,” Rudkins said. “We won’t know how the pitch will cope with any freezing until it’s dark. Unfortunately it means that if it needs to be, no decision to call it off will be made until much later in the day.”

United are due to host Whitehawk in a Ryman League Cup quarter-final between the teams lying second-from-bottom and top of the Premier Division respectively.

The clubs met in the league at East Brighton Park on Boxing Day when United twice came from behind to draw 2-2. Assuming it goes ahead, kick-off tonight will be 7.45pm. Further news will appear on this website later today.

Sidley United’s match at home to East Preston in Sussex County League Division One tonight, meanwhile, has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch after a midday inspection.
