Eastbourne Boro boss: A date - any date - would allow us to plan

Eastbourne Borough boss Danny Bloor is holding out for the day when football clubs are given a date for a return.

The Sports’ manager says only then will Borough, and clubs all over the country like them, be able to start putting plans in place for their own pre-season and league campaign.

He was speaking as National League clubs continued to delay a decision on how to bring their season to an end.

They have already decided they will not play remaining league matches but have yet to decide whether they want a final table worked out and promotion and relegation implemented. A decision is unlikely before confirmation of what will happen at the bottom of League Two.

As for Bloor he is kicking his heels and longing for the day when there is definite news about next season.

He says the country’s battle to see off coronavirus remains the top priority, but many people are finding it hard to live without their football fix.

Bloor told the Eastbourne Herald: “It’s really tough. The National League have still not concluded the season and it is dragging on. Normally by now we;d have had our end-of-season awards and we’d be organising friendlies, but we can’t do that.

“The overall situation with the virus is what’s important but we have to start getting back to some sort of normality at some point.

Football is a big thing in many people’s lives and a long period without it will have affected the mental health of some.

“It’s tough for us and the players too. You’re together every Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday, then suddenly there’s no contact at all.

“If we could just get a date, that would be a big step. If someone could say next season will start on September 1, or tell us the date we could train again, it would be something to focus on and mean planning could start.”

Bloor has been keeping in touch with his players but said, like all clubs from League Two down, Borough could not plan the squad for next season without knowing when it start or when income streams would resume.
