Draw makes it seven unbeaten

A Lee Carey penalty gave United a first half lead in the Ryman Football League Premier Division fixture before Jono Richardson’s second half equaliser made it one defeat from 13 matches.

There was relatively little goalmouth incident at either end until Carey opened the scoring in the 35th minute after Zac Attwood had done brilliantly to beat two defenders and be fouled by a third.

Jamie Crellin poked wide with just the goalkeeper to beat following a lovely pass from Bradley Goldberg and Concord levelled shortly before the break when Tony Stokes turned well in the box and shot into the far corner.

Seventh-placed Concord, from Canvey Island in Essex, got on top during the second half and deservedly went ahead in the 70th minute through Stokes’ delightful free kick into the top corner from inside the D.

United got back on level terms almost instantly, though. A free kick into the away box wasn’t dealt with by the Concord goalkeeper and although Richardson’s first effort was blocked on the line, his second found the net.

The U’s had three decent chances to win it in the final 10 minutes. Carey shot wide of the far post with his left foot after great work from Goldberg, while Attwood had two shots saved from good positions inside the box.
