He said: “Well, we couldn't come back and draw the game, which is frustrating.

"But that is where I am at the moment and I just need to keep grinding and get better.

“If we cannot win, it doesn't mean too much, to be honest. I could have done more that's for sure.”

Having gone five games unbeaten in a strong start to the season, in all competitions, Albion faltered against Marco Silva’s side on Tuesday.

Fulham dominated for large periods and made it count with a quickfire double at the start of the second half, through Aleksandar Mitrovic and Lewis Dunk own goal.

Albion responded well and Argentine international Alexis Mac Allister managed to halved the deficit from the penalty spot, after Pervis Estupiñán was fouled in the box by Bobby Decordova-Reid

That's when Mitoma – who scored seven goals whilst on loan at Belgium side Union SG last season – was introduced.

After the game, the forward was asked what manager Graham Potter told him before he replaced Pervis Estupiñán just after the hour mark at Craven Cottage.

“Stay on the wing, try and take on defenders and create chances, as simple as that,” Mitoma said.

"When they doubled up on me, I could've played quick return passes, to be more creative.

"I mean there was one pass that went to [Pascal] Gross, which was good.

"I hope to be able to do more of that going forward.”
