Lambert announced his decision last night (Tuesday) believing he was unable to do the job to the best of his ability given all the uncertainty around the Sussex County League Division One club at present.

Sidley are currently unable to use their Gullivers ground after parent company Sidley Sports & Social Club ceased trading at the end of April due to severe financial difficulties.

Lambert said: “Saturday was a great day. We had 25 players at training which was a great session, but we had a meeting on Monday with the committee of the social club and it appeared in that meeting that there’s just different views on where we’re going and what we’re doing.

“I came out of there feeling very flat, and after speaking with Nigel (Jones) and Ben (White), it was just going to be virtually impossible to do it. With so much uncertainty, I just can’t do my job.”

Lambert led Sidley to promotion from Sussex Division Two during his first season at the helm and comfortably preserved their Division One status over the subsequent three campaigns, winning the Hastings & District FA Senior Cup three times along the way.
