Bennett delighted as ‘best keeper in Sussex’ stays

LITTLEHAMPTON Football Club manager Mark Bennett is delighted that keeper Jon Hendrick will stay at the club for another season.

Golds’ boss hailed his side’s stopper as the best in Sussex after he had been linked with a move to Ryman League Premier Division side Bognor Regis.

Hendrick was unable to commit to the Rocks and Bennett said: “Bognor made contact with Jon but he decided that it wasn’t the right time for him.

“His wife is due to give birth in August and he’s decided to stay with us for one more season.

“He might look to go on to play at a higher level next summer but you can’t guarantee what openings there will be then.

“I’m delighted that he’s staying with us and it’s massive for the club. He’s the best keeper in Sussex and will be our club captain again next season.”

Golds began pre-season training on Tuesday evening ahead of their return to County League Division 1.

Littlehampton were promoted as champions of Division 2 last season, when they also reached the finals of the John O’Hara and Division 2 cups.

The County League season begins on August 10.
