FOOTBALL: August 30 round-up

ARUNDEL will travel to Ryman League Godalming Town in the FA Cup first-qualifying round afer a 2-0 win at fellow County Leaugers Mile Oak on Saturday.

Mullets won the 1,500 prize money at division-lower Oak with goals from Dave Walker (43mins) and Gary Norgate (penalty, 58mins).

Arundel assistant-manager Simon Butler said: "It was a good performance, especially with all the injuries we had."

EP had penalty appeals for handball turned down by referee Dean Treleaven in injury-time, and EP substitute Chris Darwin was red-carded for foul and abusive language.

In County League Division 1, Wick got their first victory of the season with a 2-0 success over St Francis. Scott Murfin and Ben Torode netted Wick's goals.

Wick manager Carl Stabler said: "We played well - like we had been in pre-season.

"We could have come out more comfortable winners because we created a lot of chances, which I was pleased about."

In the same divison, Rustington were held to a scoreless draw at Loxwood.

Blues were without Brett Neal (shin injury), Chris Green (playing cricket) and Lee Gibbs (unavailable) but Sean Duffy made his first appearance of the season.

Loxwood had the better of the first half, and Blues keeper Andy McCarthy twice made important stops.

Rustington's best chance to snatch victory came when Steve Kirkham capitalised on a mistake in the Loxwood defence but fired just wide.

Clymping manager Dominic Di Paola said: "We definitely should have won, and it was frustrating not to.

"They had two good chances in the game, but we had 12 or 13 and it was just one of those games.

"We even had a goal dissallowed. Adam Westwood scored after he had shoulder-barged their defender, but the referee adjudged it to be a push."

Simon Corona, David Murray and Joe Shelley were among those to miss Clymping's chances.
