Sean Heather’s heroics hands Slinfold a heavy defeat to Stirlands

Slinfold skipper Steve Haines simply had to hold his hands up to applaud an “unbelievable” batting display by Sean Heather as they lost by ten wickets away at Stirlands.

The Stirlands skipper and former Sussex batsman smashed 104 runs off 108 balls, and along with fellow opener Stuart Hanks (73) picked off Slinfold’s 196-8 batting total to claim their fourth straight win.

Haines said: “It’s not one to dwell on, we actually played quite well but just came up against a guy in unbelievable form, I think that’s his third hundred in three weeks, it was good to watch. Had we got him out early I honestly believe we could have won the game but either you get him early or he gets a hundred.”

For Slinfold, opener Guy Thorne hit 68 from 97 balls including 12 boundaries. There were contributions down the order from Dan Graycon (24), Matt Shuttlewood (30) and Ali Awcock with 22 not out at number nine. “Getting near 200 was a bit of a struggle but I’m pleased we again batted the 53 overs,” Haines said.
