Hastings Priory Cricket Club first team team coach Ian Gillespie has sung the praises of star batsmen Leo Cammish and Harry Finch.

Cammish is the leading scorer in the entire Sussex Cricket League so far this season with 329 runs, while fellow teenager Finch is second with 278.

The pair forged a second wicket partnership of 223 in last weekend’s draw at home to Three Bridges with Finch scoring 168 not out and Cammish making 89.

Gillespie said: “Harry’s been with us since he was six and he’s played fantastically well. He’s still developing and really looks a commanding player at the crease. He’s very purposeful, he’s got a great range of shots and he times the ball superbly.

“He’s on the Sussex staff now and I’m sure he’s going to be a seasoned pro in a couple of years’ time, and maybe go beyond that because he really does look top drawer.

“Leo’s been fantastic with the bat this season. He showed a lot of promise last year and put some good innings together, but this season he’s been the mainstay of our batting consistently week in, week out. Him and Harry are quite a formidable partnership as an opener and number three.”

Despite the pair’s runs and winning three times in the ECB Royal London Club Championship, Priory are yet to record their first victory of the campaign in the Sussex Premier League.

With more than a quarter of the season now completed, Priory are second-bottom of the table having drawn four of their five league matches, including all three at home.

Pace bowler Adam Barton is back from university and is expected to go straight into the side for the trip to fourth-placed Cuckfield today (Saturday). John Morgan is rated 60-40 and Elliot Hooper is doubtful due to school commitments.

Priory will begin their defence of the Gray-Nicolls Sussex T20 Cup on Sunday with a tough second round tie at home to Horsham. Play is due to get underway from 1pm.
