Cox regards the remainder of the first half of the season as crucial in Bexhill’s quest to retain their Sussex Premier League status.

He said: “In the next three weeks we’ve got Three Bridges here, East Grinstead away which will be tough, and then Hastings and the Sussex Development XI here. I think we would aim to try to win two of those.”

Bexhill are currently bottom of the table, but Cox is hoping their Gray-Nicolls Sussex T20 Cup victory over Brighton & Hove on Sunday will spark an upturn in league form.

“You can get into a rut and we’re a little bit in that at the moment,” he continued. “I think the T20 format suits our side, but winning is a habit whatever the format.

“When we bat in T20 we go out and express ourselves, which we’ve got to do in the longer form of the game, and we’ve got to play with the same intensity for the whole game.”

With Callum Guest and Johnathan Haffenden set to return, and hopefully Ashar Zaidi, Bexhill hope to be just about at full strength for the visit of Three Bridges tomorrow (Saturday, 12.30pm start).
