Clymping fail to hault Wisborough’s charge

CLYMPING Cricket Club were unable to prevent Wisborough Green from extending their 100 per cent winning start in West Sussex Invitation League Division 1 on Saturday.

Clymping were bowled out on the penultimate ball of the match as they just failed to hold on for the draw and leaders Wisborough took the full 30 points from a game for the fourth successive match.

Clymping captain Chris Green and No 11 Chris Hanks had batted out the best part of six overs but Hanks was adjudged LBW to Wisborough’s Matt Travena and Green said: “It was unfortunate for us. I had a good view from the non-striker’s end and I thought it looked high and that it was a bit harsh to be given out.

“We felt a bit hard done by but they definitely deserved to win the game.”

Clymping won the toss and put Wisborough into bat as they wanted to try to chase the win for the third successive game.

But things did not pan out how Green had hoped as Wisborough batted their full 49 overs and scored 274-8, with Justin Grant smashing 14 fours and two sixes as he top-scored with 86.

Clymping then lost wickets regularly throughout their innings as Travena finished with 4-32 and Ben Thatcher grabbed 3-52.

“We then lost a couple of early wickets which set us back and when we had three of our top batsmen back in the hutch, we had to re-assess, bat as long as we could and see where we got.

“It got to the stage where we didn’t want to lose and give them the extra points.
