County delight for Egerton trio

Nigel Hooper, Peter Cockett and Peter Gunston triumphed 18-15 over an Eastbourne Indoor Bowls Club team led by Ian Coombes in the final at Horsham.

It was the first time a team from the club had claimed the title and the first county honour of any description won by members of Egerton Park since 1990.

The final was the culmination of an epic odyssey which began when they won the club's triples championship towards the end of last year which is no mean feat in itself.

They then had to see off five more trios from around the county in places such as Brighton and Worthing to book their final date.

The threesome, along with other members of the club, will have a crack at the Sussex Outdoor crown on May 19.
