Chichester opens doors for World Squash Day

It's World Squash Day on Saturday (Nov 5) and Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club are offering women a chance to try the sport for free.

All you have to do is turn up at the club – next to the Festival Theatre on Oaklands Way – between 12.45pm and 3pm with suitable clothing and clean, non-marking sole shoes. Racquets, balls and guidance will be provided. Beginners, returners, improvers and superstars are all welcome.

The event is being organised by the club’s two new coaching recruits, Kelly Eastment and Zoe Shardlow, who have been appointed assistants to head coach Mike Phillips and will help spearhead a campaign to encourage more youngsters and women to get involved in squash.

“Squash is a great sport for improving fitness, having fun and meeting people,” said level-two coach Shardlow.

“You can play it all year round and you don’t require lots of people or lots of equipment to have a good game.”

Level-three coach Eastment said: “We are a not-for-profit members’ club and have some of the best facilities in the country – it is a great place to play.”

Eastment is an ex-county junior player, Shardlow a one-time national junior champion.
