Chichester ace celebrates new course record in Peacehaven ten-miler

Chichester's seniors have been involved in a variety of winter runs, including two of the more arduous events on the calendar.

More than 350 runners assembled for Sunday’s challenging Peacehaven ten-mile event with runners having to battle against high winds on the Downs.

First home was James Baker in an excellent time of 56.34, nearly two minutes inside the previous best time, to add to his growing tally of course records.

Doing well to make the top 100 were Mark Jennings and Michael Moorcroft, 74th and 83rd respectively with times of 78.58 and 79.40. Over-60 John Betts was pleased to make 189th with 89.44.

There were 269 hearty souls who braved the hills, water, ploughed field and stiles of the Duck Pond Waddle, whose name belies the true nature of the nine-mile cross-country course on the Downs above Worthing. Jon Healy was Chichester’s first runner home in a fine 13th place in 63.04 with David Pike in 52nd, leading home others inside the top hundred.

Other finishers: Martin Miller was 70th, Terry Healy 78th, Dave Harris 81st, Dave Reading 88th, Darren Knight 89th and Kevin Lockyear 95th. These were followed by David Knight in 124th, Tony Cooley 130th, Tracy Jayant 140th, Alan Rowley 162nd, Sue Baker 187th, Jill Renson 192nd, Peter Shaw 203rd and Ann Walford 240th.
