Boxer Griffiths hoping for a home double in Portsmouth

Liam Griffiths is pinning his hopes on a double victory in Portsmouth on Saturday.

The Bognor boxer is on the St Patrick’s Day show at the Mountbatten Centre and anticipates an eye-catching win.

But the 25-year-old welterweight is also desperate for Pompey to gain three crucial points from their Championship relegation duel with Bristol City at Fratton Park earlier in the day.

“I’m hoping to celebrate two big wins,” the orthodox puncher said. “I have just had two fights on Frank Warren’s Box Nation channel and wore an SOS Pompey shirt into the ring for the first at The Troxy in Lindon.

“I got loudly booed by the crowd who were largely Millwall fans following my Peckham opponent Johnny Garton.

Griffiths boxed former ABA champion Damon Jones on the undercard in Glasgow last Saturday and said: “That was another great experience.”

Tickets for the show are available on 07861 657452.
