Battling Wick sunk by classy Lewes

The home side were well beaten, but not disgraced. While appreciating the fast, free-flowing football of the visitors, there was also much to admire in Wick's never-say-die spirit. They left the field with their heads held high.

Mark McCallum, who had an excellent game in the home defence, was harshly booked for upending an opponent early in the game, and from the free-kick Lewes took the lead.

Like a pinball, the shot struck someone in the wall, smacked against a post and rolled into the net off the shins of the hapless Dave Hall, who could do nothing to prevent it.

By such fortuitous circumstances did the visitors lead at half-time, and after the interval the outcome was predictable, but cruel.

Wick had to be more venturesome in search of goals, and on the break the Rooks picked them off one by one. Their speedy attackers were too hot for the home defence to handle. Two goals from Jamie Cade, once on Middlesbrough's books, and one each from Mark Goodwin and Lee Farrell mercilessly punished Wick.
