Bad decisions end Crows' Vase hopes

FA Vase 1st RoundColliers Wood United 2 Crowborough Athletic 1CROWS returned from South London frustrated and disappointed after going out of this year's competition.

The County League side completely outplayed their Combined Counties opponents but were eliminated due a combination of bad luck, lack of composure and the biggest disappointment some appalling decisions from the officials.

Crows were fast out of the blocks and on a delightful playing surface passed the ball around with conviction. Dave Adams saw a rasping shot just clear the crossbar and at this stage it was all one-way traffic.

Ross Treleaven then had a great chance to open the scoring but rushed his shot which flew high and wide. Dennahy then saved well from Danny Baker and Wayne Clarke beat two defenders before being pulled down by Hogan but no penalty was awarded.

Clarke then had just Dennahy to beat but attempted to go round the advancing goalkeeper who kicked the ball away.

On 40 minutes the inevitable happened. Drew Crush was on the end of a dreadful challenge but no foul was given by Mr Hopton and Colliers Wood played on to open the scoring. Hughes cleverly dummied the ball from McKay's corner and Griffiths's shot was deflected in.

Mr Hopton again frustrated the visitors when Chris Ransome was clearly stopped in attempting to head the equaliser and O'Keith cleared the ball away.

Crows came out for the second period determined, but Colliers Wood had their best spell of the game. Crows gradually got back on top, and Baker fired in only for the goal to be ruled out for offside despite there being two defenders on the goalline and the goalkeeper in front of Baker.

Treleaven then made it 1-1 as Crows started to dominate again, but with a little over ten minutes remaining Prodger and Ransome should have managed to prevent McKay's cross which led to Fleming scoring from close range.

Crowborough: Gordon, Crush, Prodger, Rhodes, C Bishop, Baker, Clarke, A Bishop, Adams (Leppard), Ransome (Bull), Treleaven. Unused subs: Meek, Murray, Stowe.
