'Yes, it's risky', says broken-ankle Rosie

LITTLEHAMPTON woman Rosie Parfitt found even carrying out a risk assessment can be risky when she tripped over on a pothole and broke her ankle.

Rosie, information officer for SureStart, set off to test the route for a new walking bus scheme with West Sussex County Council road and safety officer Martin Cooke.

But calamity struck when Rosie tripped on a pothole in Roman Acre and fell to the ground, blacking out for a few moments.

She said the hole, which was hidden by an over-grown bush, was unavoidable.

"The noise it made was unmistakable," she said. "It made an amazing crack."
