Snow: Henfield’s emergency team in action

HENFIELD Parish Council’s emergency snow team was out in force on Friday (January 18) to thwart winter conditions with a full supply of salt and grit in readiness.

A team of councillors and volunteers shovelled snow, gritted pavements and made pathways around the High Street safe for residents.

Philip Hill, parish council clerk, says: “We invested in a grit and salt spreading machine to make the job a little easier and have been watching the weather forecasts closely. We rely entirely on volunteers for snow clearance.”

Digby Stephenson, vice-chairman of the parish council, said: “We need volunteers, so as well as the councillors we would like to see a few younger fitter people helping out.”

In the past councillors have mounted “rescue” operations to clear pathways for trapped elderly residents and are ready to do so again.

Henfield has a population of more than 5,000.
