The wintry conditions followed a dusting of snow the previous morning. Roads remained passable with care and buses ran normally.

But train services in the town were affected. Two commuter services at 6.07am and 7.16am were the first victims.

One of the two trains to London Victoria each hour – around 30 minutes past – was then cancelled throughout the day from 8.26am-6.33pm. The hourly service from Victoria at 8.32am until 7.32pm was also scrapped along with the 6.02am train.

Services to Chichester, Portsmouth and Southampton were hit as well by the loss of some of their connections to London.

More disruption is likely as further snow is forecast for tonight and tomorrow. The snow arrived after several days of plummeting temperatures in Bognor.

Readings from the town council’s weather station on Waterloo Square fell to -8.8C on Sunday night.

Even the daytime temperature has failed to get above freezing since Sunday. It is unlikely to get above zero until Saturday.
