Village unitesto aid six yearold Christian

Sedlescombe Primary School pupil Christian Fortunato was born 12 weeks early, weighing only 2lb and spent his first seven weeks in a special care baby unit.

At one years old Christian was diagnosed with spastic diplegia a type of cerebral palsy.

Popular Battle PCSO Demi Georghiou came up with the idea of holding a village fete in Sedlescombe to raise money toward an operation which will help Christian realise his dream of walking and one day playing football.

The event had to be cancelled earlier this summer due to the freak storms which swept across the area.

But it finally went ahead and raised an impressive £1,200 toward Christian’s treatment.

PCSO Demi Georghios said: “I’m so proud of the people of Sedlescombe, that when I approached the residents and businesses with the idea of the event, everyone came together and showed true community spirit!

“The first people that came to mind were Jean and Ralph Dellow, who I knew would give one hundred percent to helping me with this worthy cause.

“I could not have done it without them and I would like to thank them and those who have put so much effort into raising funds for Christian.”

Demi added: “Following this experience I would do it all again.”

Mr Fortunato said “ We would love to say thank you for everyone’s support , the money raised will go a long way. Christian needs lots of phyisotherapy and he works hard.

“He likes to be as active as possible, like most kids, he’s into swimming and basketball.

“The amount of support we have received is out of this world.

“It is hard to express in words how touched we are that in today’s world people still care about each other.

“It is truly overwhelming that so many people have made Christian, and his dream to be able to walk, a primary focus.

“He is a very determined little boy and he is doing well, thank you again to everyone.”
