A St Leonards road has been closed due to emergency repairs.

It is believed that Old Church Road was closed on Wednesday (March 1) due to a gas leak.

SGN is currently carrying out gas main works in the area and started work on February 22, according to its website.

However a full road closure is now in place.

Waseem Hanif, spokesperson for gas distribution company SGN, said: “We’re continuing emergency repairs to our gas network in Old Church Road, St Leonards.

"Old Church Road is temporarily closed to allow our teams so safely carry out their work. We’ve made good progress and repairs to our network are now complete.

"However, the road surface needs to be restored before we can reopen the road. This involves a number of processes which require a certain amount of time in between, including allowing time for concrete to harden to ensure the road is reinstated to the required specification.

“All going well, we hope to restore the surface and remove the road closure by Wednesday (March 8).”
