A27 Lancing gas works - 'Emergency repairs' cause heavy delays

Motorists are continuing to be impacted by delays on the A27 at Lancing due to ongoing gas works.

Photos taken near the Manor Roundabout this morning (Monday, December 18) show a solitary ⁦SGN gas⁩ worker testing for a gas leak, with the road partially blocked eastbound.

Gas distribution company SGN said its engineers are ‘carrying out emergency repairs’ to the gas main on the A27 at Lancing.

"We know this is a busy route and we have specialist equipment on site to make sure our repairs are carried out as quickly as possible,” an SGN spokesperson said.

"All being well, we hope to have completed our repairs and be off the road by some time tomorrow (Tuesday).”

This comes ten days after the road was expected to be fully reopened.

In a statement on Thursday, December 7 – when the A27 was still reduced to one lane – an SGN spokesperson said: "The road surface has just now been restored however, we still need to add an anti-skid layer to the lanes we’ve been working in.

"One lane remained closed last night for anti-skidding to be added. This lane will be reopened today, and we’ll then close the other lane for anti-skidding to be added to the road surface.

“All going well, we’ll be able to open the road as normal tomorrow (Friday, December 8).”
