Torture gang have sentences increased

A STUDENT who endured an horrific attack at the hands of four men is “very happy” that their sentences were increased at the Court of Appeal last week.

21 year old victim Ben was lured to a friend’s house to play a video game but was then gagged and beaten with a hammer by a gang of four assailants before being stuffed into a body bag and driven to Brede High Woods where the gang discussed burying him alive.

The men were originally sentenced to a total of 21 years imprisonment by Mr Recorder Enoch QC at Hove Crown Court in April. But last week Judge Lord Justice Davis increased the sentences, describing them as ‘unduly lenient’

Ben told the Observer: “I feel very happy that they have been punished for what they have done. I didn’t feel satisfied with the previous sentences, which weren’t very long. I feel better and my family feel more comfortable. It has given me more faith in the system.”

The lead investigating officer DS Nick Burnage said: “These new sentences are more appropriate to the offence and is what should have been given in the first place.”
