The search is on for Littlehampton’s next Carnival Queen and Princesses

It may be deepest midwinter, but thoughts are turning to warmer times, with the launch this week of the search for a new Littlehampton Carnival Queen and her two Princesses.

They will have the honour of representing their town not only on carnival day itself, July 13, but at other events and festivities both in Littlehampton and further afield during their time in the role.

And the three winners can also look forward to fabulous costumes and cash prizes.

Details of how to enter the competition can be found in this week’s (January 17) Littlehampton Gazette, and the following three weeks’ papers, before the closing date of Thursday, February 21, with judging on Sunday, March 3, by a panel appointed by Littlehampton Carnival Association.

The competition is open to girls aged 15-19 and living within a six-mile radius 
of Littlehampton. They must be available on carnival day, as well as for several functions throughout the year, including the carnival’s Christmas event, Littlehampton Town Show and Family Fun Day, in September, and Armed Forces’ Day, as well as visiting other carnivals to represent Littlehampton.

The Carnival Queen will receive a cheque for £250 and the Princesses will each receive a cheque for £150.

They will also be given designer ball gowns made in America and supplied by The Mousetrap, of Chichester, together with day wear for other occasions, and accessories, and will be loaned sportswear, too.

This year’s Carnival Queen competition is sponsored by Chace Catering, which runs the kiosk/café in Mewsbrook Park, Littlehampton.

The new trio of “royals” will succeed Carnival Queen Kirsty Alderton and Princesses Jessica Paddick and Nicole Weller.
