Tenth show is great success

This year’s show attracted over 220 entries across 54 classes in 6 categories.

The Royal Horticultural Society Banksian Medal for the highest number of place points in the horticultural classes was won Nigel Jennings. He also won the Turk Trophy for the allotment holder with the highest number of place points in the horticultural classes.

Dennis Stuart won the prize for the most points in the show overall. Helen Redmond won the cookery category.

Alexander Redmond won the 8 and over class with a delightful dog made of lettuce, leek and olives.

Yvonne Vicarey won the Flower Foliage and Ornamental category. There was a three way tie in the Handicraft category.

Helen Redmond with a stunning Cake celebrating the 10th Flower and Veg Show, shared equal points with Dennis Stuart who exhibited an excellent water colour and Jen Jackson for her intricate knitwear. I

In photography, Barry Hawkins film title was voted into first place by public vote whilst Penny Mitchell-Innes and Scott Lepine each won first place in the other photography classes.

Helena Hudd, who co-ordinated the show on behalf of Rye Allotments Association, said: “Special mention must also go to Colin Bye of ARRCC who designed the poster promoting this year’s show.

“The event was well attended by both residents and visitors to the Town. Amber Rudd MP also dropped in.

“I am delighted that the level of interest in the show remains high. The Judge remarked that the standard of the entries was very impressive.”

Helena expressed her thanks to all those who had helped to organise the show, to the local businesses who supported the event through sponsorship and advertising in the show schedule, the Landgate WI who provided refreshments and to the members of the community who had entered exhibits.
