Team awarded for collecting most money in swimathon

Twenty-seven swimmers from Rose Green Junior School have received certificates for making a splash for cash.

The past and present pupils, and two parents, were presented with their awards along with a trophy for raising the most money by one team in the latest annual swimathon. They collected just over 700.

This was divided between the school's funds for playtime sports equipment, PE equipment and its adventure trail and the swimathon's organiser, Bognor Regis Lions Club.

Pip Frederick, of the club, made the presentations to commemorate the achievement of the school.

Headteacher Tony Storey said: 'Over the last five years, children from the junior school have taken part in the Lions annual swimathon held at the Arun Leisure Centre.

'The children swim in teams taking it in turns to swim a length each in a relay fashion.

'Each team swims continually for an hour.'

The school's total fundraising from the swimathon has reached more than 2,000.

A quarter has been donated to the Lions' good causes.

The children are already looking forward to boosting the amount in this year's swim-athon on October 13.
