Swimming Club volunteer dies

VETERAN Bexhill Swimming Club volunteer Kathleen Elliott has died at the age of 93.

With her late husband, "Tiny" Elliott, Kathleen had dedicated herself for many years to the club.

The Elliott family's association with Bexhill Swimming Club began well before the Second World War. "Tiny" was in his teens when he joined. Post-war, he was a noted member of the club water polo team.

He served the club in a variety of capacities, most notably as president, until his death in 1975. He was also county president.

His total commitment to swimming in Bexhill and to the youth of the town was shared by Kathleen, whose long service included secretaryship of the club.

Together, the pair were for many years at the forefront of an organisation which trained countless youngsters to sporting success.

Kathleen moved to Horsham to be near her son, Peter, about 15 years ago. She had remained at home until Christmas when because of ill health she moved to a nursing home. She died there on Sunday.

In addition to Peter, she leaves five grandchildren.

Her funeral service will be held at St Leonard's Church, Cambride Road, Horsham on Tuesday at 1.15pm.
