Sussex Police praised for its work against domestic violence

It has been awarded in recognition of its commitment to the White Ribbon Campaign, a global campaign to ensure men take more responsibility for reducing the level of violence against women.

Sussex Chief Constable Martin Richards, Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne and White Ribbon Campaign director, Chris Green, launched the force’s White Ribbon status on Sthis afternoon (Saturday) at the Convent Field in Lewes, which is the venue for the Gentlemen of The Road Stopover festival.

The White Ribbon Campaign aims to raise awareness and understanding and ensure that services are provided in order to reduce the incidence of domestic violence. The initiative also aims to give the local community increased support and understanding of the issue.

Mr Richards said: “To be the first police force in the country to be granted White Ribbon status recognises how seriously we take domestic abuse and our commitment to dealing with it.”
