Surfer rescued

SHOREHAM inshore lifeboat was launched to rescue a kitesurfer in trouble off Widewater, Lancing, on Monday.

The surfer was recovered from the water and taken to the beach, where he was met by coastguards.

The inshore lifeboat was also launched following a request from the police who feared someone was drowning in the River Adur north of the Shoreham flyover last Monday.

The crew found a man fishing in a small anchored boat. Having established he was not in trouble, the lifeboat returned to station.

The offshore lifeboat was also launched to help a 40ft sailing vessel in distress one mile south of the harbour entrance last Sunday. The yacht had run out of petrol and could not get into Shoreham Harbour on the low tide, so the lifeboat towed her to Brighton Marina.
