Spate of thefts from vans

Police have appealed today for help in solving a spate of burglaries from vans on Monday and Tuesday last week (March 4-5).

Five vehicles were broken into in the Battle Road and Pont Close areas of Punnetts Town near Heathfield and tools, stereos and somebody's medication kept in a glove compartment were stolen.

A Dewalt breaker and an axe were stolen from one transit van and a Dewalt saw was from another.

Windows to another van were smashed and a Dewalt drill stolen.

Police say whoever was responsible for these thefts targeted vehicles likely to have tools inside.

They urge all owners of commercial vehicles to be extra vigilant about where they park.

PCSO Susie Bunch said: 'If possible we advise that vans are parked off road and preferably backed up to a wall or garage so that access cannot be gained through the rear doors.

'All tools should be removed from the vehicles and stored somewhere securely and nothing should be left on show.'

House to house enquiries were carried out by police as soon as these incidents were reported.
