South Downs MP Nick Herbert re-selected by Conservatives to fight General Election

At a meeting of the Association’s Executive Council on Friday January 24 he was given the full support of its members to continue as their party’s representative for the rural seat.

Arundel & South Downs constituency takes in a significant stretch of the South Downs as well as Arundel, Petworth, Pulborough, Steyning and Hurstpierpoint.

He has represented the constituency since 2005, and was re-elected in 2010 with an increased majority of 16,691 votes, taking 57.8 per cent share of the vote.

Since being elected Mr Herbert has focused on international development and criminal justice issues, including a spell as minister for policing & criminal justice.

He is chairman of the All-Party Group on Global TB and is currently working on a project to promote reform of the civil service.

Speaking after the meeting Sue Holland, chairman of Arundel & South Downs Conservative Association, said: “We are delighted that our hardworking and enthusiastic Member of Parliament has been reselected to stand to represent our beautiful constituency for a further five years.”

Following his successful reselection Mr Herbert said: “It is a privilege to represent this fantastic constituency and I am absolutely delighted to have been selected as the Conservative candidate again.

“I will continue to do everything I can to work hard for constituents, stand up for local communities, and be a strong voice at Westminster for local concerns.”
