Shop's starring role

ONE trader in Heathfield will this year advertise her business to an audience of millions when her shop is featured on Japanese television.

A camera crew from Tokyo Broadcasting is currently in town to film a DIY programme with a difference at Dijon Doll's House Shop, on Streatfield Road. Twenty-year-old Yuki Kuroda, a top Japanese TV and film star, has jetted in to learn how to make a doll's house.

The firm, owned by Diane Kirkness and located in the Old Print Works, was chosen as a subject for the TV show on Boxing Day and the film crew has not wasted any time in getting down to business. They arrived on Sunday and they leave on Monday, so it's a busy week!' said Diane.

So far, the cameras have rolled in Hailsham, Mayfield, Windmill Hill and Heathfield, and the crew is due to visit Burwash tomorrow (Saturday) when Pookreed Doll's House Club is featured.

Presenter Yuki is going for the Oriental touch in his efforts to build a house, said Diane. 'We expected to show him how to make an English-style house,' she said, 'but he has very definite views on his house. It will be a traditional Japanese house with sliding walls.' The 45-minute show will be broadcast in Japan later this year.
