Shops keep tabs on suspected crook

LEWES businesses and police worked together to find a suspected thief.

The man was identified in an antiques shop in Cliffe High Street on Wednesday last week from details in the Lewes shop watch scheme.

The man left the store prior to police arrival, but other businesses reported his movements until police found him.

The 49-year-old was arrested and has since been bailed.

James Vitler, Lewes specialist police officer, said: 'This is a prime example of local businesses and police working together.'
