He joined Neighbourhood Watch a few weeks after he and his wife moved into Pagham in June 2000.

He paid tribute to the work of the scheme’s founder in Bognor, the late Roy Gristwood, and Phil Marten, who led the police involvement a decade ago.

Mr Levy has stepped down from his executive committee role as the resources officer for Neighbourhood Watch.

But he will continue as its area co-ordinator for Pagham – looking after 25 schemes with about 30 properties each – and overseeing the scheme’s street signs.

“The system in Pagham is excellent, but we always need more street co-ordinators,” he said.
