There may still be some tickets available for Sedlescombe and District Gardening Society Gardener’s Question Time which is being held tonight Friday June 20. The celebrity panel will include Helen Yemm, gardening agony aunt for the Daily Telegraph; Edward Flint, head gardener at Tidebrook Manor, Wadhurst; and Barry Newman, Chairman of the National Vegetable Society. The event will take place at Sedlescombe Village Hall from 7.00 p.m. for a 7.30 start. Tickets, which include refreshments, are priced at £5.00 for SDGS members and £7.50 for non-members and are available from the secretary, Sue Parsons on 01580 831996 or by email at [email protected] . It promises to be a most educational and entertaining evening.

This Saturday June 21 the parish church will hold their annual summer fair from 1pm onwards in the church and churchyard. All the usual stalls will be taking part , cakes, tombola , bric a brac, donations for these would be very welcome , the human fruit machine and we hope Sheila and Trevor will be busy with the plant stall. As always there will be scrummy tea and cakes.

This is the church’s Patronal Festival weekend and as such the church will be decorated with lovely flower arrangemnts,

ready for St John the Baptist day on Sunday, June 22 when the service will be at 10.30amto which everyone is welcome.

There is no entry charge to the fair and all proceeds raised on the day will help keep our church at the top of the hill running. For donations of items for any of the stalls or offers of help or further details please contact 870808

If you have not had a chance to visit any of the studios taking part in South East Open Studios this weekend will be your final opportunity . The two artists taking part in Sedlescombe are Mark Fisher, who is an artist at The Den, Meadow Lane, Sedlescombe, TN33 0RF,contact number 01424 871605 and Tony Wynne, who works in Glass art, at 17 Park Shaw, Sedlescombe, TN33 0PP, contact number 01424 870469 . They will be open from Friday June 20 to Sunday June 22 inclusive from 10am to 4pm. Why not take advantage and visit the church and the studios on the same day ?

25 in Brede village hall. One session starts at 7-00 and the next at 8-00 pm. If you are interested in taking part please go along to one of the sessions on the day. There is a defibrillator for Sedlescombe based at the The Brickwall Hotel.

Sedlescombe and District gardening society hold their annual Barbecue on Saturday July 5 from midday. The event will take place at Marwin Farm in Marley Lane , this will be the third year in succession that the event has been hosted there by kind permission of the owners . Tickets priced £8.50 per person are available now by contacting the secretary, Sue Parsons on 01580 831996 or by email at [email protected]. The society would be grateful if there are any members that would like to offer help on the day, specifically with the preparation of salads and sweets. Sue would love to hear from you. Also if the weather looks as if it is going to be a bit iffy, like last year, it would be much appreciated if some volunteers could come forward to help erect the marquee on the Friday before.

St Michaels Hospice Open garden scheme continues this Saturday June 21 with the garden of Broad View, Marlpits Lane, Ninfield TN33 9LD open from 10.30am to 4pm. Admission is £4. Refreshments will be available throughout the day. Full details of all the gardens involved can be found in booklets available now at the village shop for a token donation of 50p.
